Techniques - Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIR)
Near Infra Red (NIR) is a non-destructive analytical technique and NIR instruments help customers in both laboratory and process situations improve product quality and performance, increase productivity and yield, while reducing downtime and waste.
Typical benefits include:
- Improved product quality and consistency through incoming ingredient identification and constituent analysis.
- Major time and cost savings for QC analysis.
- Fast, dependable results for accurately monitoring and controlling the drying and formulation process to reduce waste and rework.
- Meeting and complying with regulatory requirements.
- Ease of implementation, use, and maintenance.
Near infrared analyzers are frequently used for agricultural, food, beverage, meat, dairy, pharmaceutical and industrial samples Software transfer of data from Foss, Perstorp, Bran + Luebbe and other NIR analyzers data is available as are customer specified databases.
In addition to the NIR analysers Omicron are now UK distributors for Velp's sample preparation distillation and solvent extraction units for analysis of total kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN), kjeldahl protein.
Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy is now a well-established technique with applications in the laboratory, in process analytical technology and in the field for point of supply analyses. One of the main factors contributing to this success is the fact that NIR testing requires minimal sample preparation and is generally non-destructive.
The Unity product range, distributed in the UK by OMICRON Research, includes near infrared (NIR) bench-top and on-line process analyzers, for:
- Food/Beverage
- Baked Goods, Confectionary, Snack Foods, Meats, Dairy, Processed Food, Wine, Beer, Soft Drink
- Feed
- Forage, Pet Food, Feed
- Industrial
- Chemical, Petrochemical, Pulp/Paper
- Pharmaceutical
- Drug Discovery, Production/Final Product, Raw Materials, Nutrition Products
- Tobacco
Developed for convenience and ease-of-use, the UNITY NIR Spectrophotometers are extremely flexible and can be configured for the analysis of solids, slurries and suspensions. TransStar, a software solution to transfer an existing NIR database from other major brand instruments including Foss, Perstop, Braun + Luebbe and many more is available.
The SpectraStar 2400 NIR units are rugged, dependable, and simple to operate and versions are available with either a sample drawer (2400D) or a top window (2400W). The 2400 NIR models are self-contained with a built-in processor and are controlled from a large touch screen display. NIR test results are displayed within seconds using the easy-to-use TransStar™ and CalStar™ analysis software.
If sample preparation is required e.g. distillation, solvent extraction, units for the analysis of total kjeldahl nitrogen and protein, and total fat - Unity have a wide range of sample preparation units to speed the sample flow through the laboratory.
